The Astronomical Institute of Charles University in Prague was founded by August Seydler (1849-1891), professor of theoretical physics and astronomy. At first the Institute was located
in a villa in Letna and then, for a long time, in the Svedska street in Smichov (the photograph bellow), a district of Prague. Nowadays, the Astronomical Institute is a part of the
Faculty of Mathematics and Physics and is located in the Troja campus.
